Moving to Brainerd

Brainerd Public School District is a highly rated school district among parents and teachers. In the district there are 11 elementary schools ranging from grades PK-5th grade, there are five middles schools from grades 6-8 and four high schools from grades 9-12. The district serves over 7,000 students with 15 different schools, excluding specialty schools, charter schools and private schools. Some of the top rated schools in the district include Riverside Elementary School, Brainerd Senior High School, Garfield Elementary School and Lowell Elementary School. The Brainerd Public Library offers a whole world without ever leaving the city. The library is located at 416 South Fifth Street at (218) 829-5574. Aside from having a rather large and extensive book collection, you can check out CD-ROM's, magazines, videos, and cassettes. There are six computers on site with Internet access, librarians are trained to answer questions you may have or direct you in the right direction. Library books are available to check out for 28 days with no limit. Tapes and CDs are 14 days with no limit, videos for seven days (two per library card), magazines are for seven days no limit and CD-ROMs are 14 days (two per library card). There are no fees for checking books out unless there is damage or lost items. There is also a $3.00 replacement card fee.

Every city offers some type of public transportation and Brainerd is no exception. Dial-A-Ride offers rides for those needing handicap assistance, for work, shopping, activities or appointments. All you need to do is contact Dial-A-Ride at (218) 825-7433 by 1:00p.m. the day before your trip. The cost is $1.00 per trip each way for trips in the city locations and $2.00 per trip outside city limits. You may call for a ride the day of your trip, but the fares will be doubled. The hours of operation are 7:15a.m. to 4:30p.m., Monday thru Friday except for holidays.

Brainerd offers residents the ability to pay their utilities online or at one of the many convenient locations all over the city. Brainerd Public Utilities provides electric, water, and waste water.
